What happens when a classic hymn meets heavy metal? This week’s Music Monday can help answer that question. Delivered to us by Becoming the Archetype, “How Great Thou Art” is a age-old hymn in heavy metal. BTA holds a special place in my heart for several reasons, but the most noteable are (a) they were one of the first heavy metal bands I truly got into, and (b) I grew up with “Count” Seth Hecox (clean vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboard). Love this band. Love this song.

“How Great Thou Art” Lyrics
Oh, Lord, my God
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
And when I think that God his Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on that cross my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, my God, how great Thou art
Come on and break the void
My God, how great Thou art, how great Thou art
My God, how great Thou art, how
